I CAN happily leave home having done all my make-up bar my lashes.
If I do wear mascara, I want it to have impact, so I never stray from black.
But that changed as I tested coloured mascara.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Burgundy Haze, £12.99 for 9.6ml, boots.com:
I was worried this burgundy mascara would leave my eyes looking like I was fighting a bout of conjunctivitis but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Applied straight on my fair lashes, it dried to a very dark burgundy that could be mistaken for black, if it wasn’t for how blue my eyes looked in contrast.
I received so many compliments that I’ve been wearing it most days since.
It’s harder to remove than my usual mascara but it doesn’t smudge at all during the day.
This is my favourite, and a great formula for the high street
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara gives you length and volume[/caption]
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara In Chocolate, £25 for 8ml, cultbeauty.com: It’s not often my sisters put me on to new products, but over Christmas I noticed one of them had swapped her usual black version of this mascara for the brown, and I had to try it for myself.
The results are slightly softer, which I like, as the mascara is a true “falsies in a tube” offering, with an hourglass wand that lengthens and volumises, so the lighter hue makes it more flattering for every day on my fair skin.
It was also much easier to remove at the end of the day.
It’ll definitely have a place in my make-up bag, but given the price, I’ll probably repurchase the Maybelline over this in future.
This Dior mascara is definitely not subtle[/caption]
Diorshow Pump ’n’ Volume XXL Volume Squeezable Mascara, £33 for 6g, dior.com: A month ago I would not have touched this blue formula with a barge pole and, after trying a few times, I’m still not sure I’d wear it on a regular basis.
The blue is a similar colour to the default Windows background so there’s nothing subtle about it and got me some funny looks on the street.
Colour aside, I love the packaging as you can squeeze more formula on to the brush so less is wasted, and the bushy wand really lengthens lashes.
If you have an occasion where blue mascara would work, it’s worth a go.

The design is impeccable, with the spray nozzle housed in the classic twist lock used in Coach’s bags, and a matching dog-tag chain and gold heart charm.
